Message To get an over all picture you need both . A/F measures A/F and that's it. EGT measures Temperature that's it too.

However, temp on the EGT has many variables, A/F, engine load, back pressure, timing. How do you know what variable is affecting the reading? It doesn't really matter because the only thing an EGT is good for is to keep your engine from melt down. Melt down temperature of 900+ Celsius is the same whether it is from running too lean or from back pressure. You need A/F for tuning and EGT for margin of safety. That is why tuners rely on both.
